Artfeel performance scheduled for June in The Woodlands

The occasional ‘fantasy night’ known as Artfeel will return on June 30 with another roster of dazzling and entertaining performance artists in the open space Central Park of Market Street.

Nickole Kerner Bobley, who is the founders of Artfeel, said in an email interview that the next iteration of the popular variety show will wow audiences at 7 p.m. on June 30.

“Our creative inspiration for the evening is Gaston Carrio’s ‘Mystical Sense’ sculpture, a functional work of art, an art bench, which lives across from The Riva Row Boathouse at the base of the beautiful waterfalls on The Woodlands Waterway, ”said Bobley. “We will start working on the show in June, but as usual, we will be offering musicians, dancers, poets and storytellers to perform and share what the ‘mystical senses’ make them feel – their Artfeel.”

Artfeel events date back to 2017 when the events were held in the former Crush Wine Lounge. Bobley said his relationship with salon owner Ruth Hallaway began in 2017, when Hallaway created “ Wish You Were Here Wednesday, ” free and open to the public.

Eventually, Artfeel, a live variety show that honored public art, grew out of “Wish You Were her Wednesday” in conjunction with the Woodlands Arts Council, Bobley added.

When Crush Wine Lounge closed in 2019, Artfeel lost their home. Then, in the fall of 2019, the event moved to Market Street’s new green space, Central Park. However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a postponement of Artfeel events until their restart on March 10.

Fun format

Each show features people who find inspiration in a specific community work of art, then convey those feelings to attendees through spoken word, poetry, interpretive dance, or other means. The June 30 piece of art is Carrio’s “The Mystical Senses”, one of three sculptures by the Argentinian-born artist in The Woodlands.

“(Carrio’s) training is in architecture. Jenny Carattini-Wright described her latest bench of art as “an open invitation to experience the infinitely magical nature and the circle of life, surrounding it in complete sensory immersion,” added Bobley. “When I visited ‘Mystical sense’ I was struck by how the design of the room amplifies the sounds around you – the sounds of nature – so I flirted with the idea of bringing it to life. part of the show blindfolded by our guests. the musical performances really amplify, just like the sounds of nature attract the auditory attention when one is seated inside (the sculpture) on his bench.

Bobley also said that the organizers may have brought in a music expert tom “briefly teaches us through a handcrafted performance how certain types of music and certain specific musical instruments can themselves make us feel emotions.”

“There is a lot of amazing work over the past few years in a new branch of science called Neuroesthesia on the Brain on Art, Music and Memory,” she added. “I love that we dip our toes into this Artfeel space.”
