It’s official: Becky G has just released a Latinx-inspired beauty line. Singer and actress – which was discovered on YouTube at the age of 14 and has since topped the Billboard charts – released Beauty Treslúce, which draws on its Mexican heritage. Her brand is an ode to her cherished culture and family with agave infused formulas sourced from her grandparents’ hometown of Jalisco, Mexico. Its product packaging comes in “Talavera Blue” boxes which refer to Talavera tiles popular in Mexican decor.. According to Peul singer, the beauty line is one of her “biggest dreams come true”.
Before the line was released, we hopped on a Zoom call with Becky G, who spoke about the importance of this launch. “I’ve been dreaming about this moment for years now, and it was always on my priority list, but I thought it was important to be a student first,” she told Remezcla. “I was one of the youngest Covergirls ever, and it was such a huge moment for me at 15 to be an ‘easy, airy, beautiful cover girl.’
Following her contract with Covergirl, Becky G worked with famous cosmetics company ColourPop, which she said improved her confidence and knowledge of design, makeup formulas and the brand. This experience led her to forge her own vision of a makeup line.
The singer, now the founder of beauty, also shared her hopes of inspiring other young businesswomen: “I just want to create more opportunities to eventually become a platform for other artists and more collaboration in the beauty space, ”she adds. “This is why we have collaborated with [Mexican] artist Monica Loya to help us with the illustrations on our packaging. She is the first, but certainly not the last, of the artists we intend to collaborate with when it comes to our brand.
While Treslúce debuted with a collection that celebrates Becky G’s personal history and legacy, the brand also intends to collaborate with other artists to represent their Latinidad and represent their different banderas and stories. She hopes her brand can authentically represent the diversity of Latinx communities. “Creating a welcoming space, broadening the conversation about what it means to be Latinx and that it means something different to everyone and that it’s such a personal thing, I think it will really help us in the process. beauty space, ”she proclaims. “Celebrating each other is a great place to start.
