KARD are reestablishing their reputation as one of K-pop’s top co-ed groups with their latest EP “Re:” released on Wednesday.
It’s been a year and 10 months since the EP “Way with Words” (2020), the last time the band released music as a whole. During this time, Member J.seph enlisted and completed his mandatory military service.
During a showcase on Wednesday, hours before the EP’s release, the band opened up about J.seph’s absence, saying how they miss him so much that they keep in touch as much as possible.
“We always talked for at least an hour on the phone and wrote tons of letters to her,” Jeon Somin said.
“I really enjoyed how the members stayed on the phone with me and listened to what I had to say, since I’m a talkative person,” J.seph said.
KARD also performed lead track “Ring The Alarm,” which is a pop-dance Moombahton song with a vibe that just screams summer.
The EP contains five other tracks: “Break Down”, “Good Love” and “Whip!” featuring instrumental versions of “Break Down” and “Ring The Alarm”.
“Good Love” is an English song.
All four KARD members – Jeon Somin, Jeon Jiwoo, BM, and J.seph – participated in producing the songs. “Break Down” was written by all four members, and BM participated in writing lyrics for all songs.
“The prefix ‘re’, when added to the beginning of a verb, means ‘to redo’, and we finally got back on stage after almost two years,” BM said. “We wanted to freshen up and prove that we still had a passion for singing and performing on stage, so we thought ‘Re:’ would be the perfect title for the album.”
“This album is by far my favorite,” said J.seph. “The hair, the makeup, the performance – I hope all of our fans enjoy it as much as I do.”
The group agreed that the members had fun making the album and that it was “full of good vibes”.
“We wanted to do something that could show what is ours,” J.seph said. “So we kept giving each other new ideas and we got lots of praise and compliments. We feel like we’ve really grown as a group and have great teamwork.
When asked what was KARD’s biggest advantage as a group, BM replied that because each member had different singing tones, it helped broaden their musical spectrum.
The group will embark on another “2022 Wild KARD In Latin America” world tour at the end of July, in cities like Mexico City and Buenos Aires, for which the members have expressed their high expectations.
“We had so much fun making this album and realized how happy we were making music together and performing as a group,” Jeon Somin said. “We really hope to create precious memories with this album.”
KARD is a rare type of K-pop act as it is one of the very few active co-ed groups. He officially debuted in 2017 with the EP “Hola Hola”. In accordance with their name, each member has their own combination of representative cards – BM is a club, J.seph is a spade, Jeon Somin is a heart, and Jeon Jiwoo is a diamond.
KARD is particularly popular in South America and is best known for songs like “Oh NaNa” (2016), “Don’t Recall” (2017), “Bomb Bomb” (2019), and “Red Moon” (2020).
