Drugs and stolen weapon found during traffic stop in Rankin County

Two men are facing charges after Rankin County sheriff’s deputies said they found illegal drugs and a stolen gun during a traffic stop. Members of the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team pulled over a Mercedes Thursday afternoon on Interstate 20 for a traffic violation. “During a roadside interview, the deputy became suspicious of the discrepancies between the driver’s and passenger’s accounts,” Sheriff Bryan Bailey said in a statement. “During a consensual search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered approximately 59 doses of OxyContin and 2.5 grams of cocaine. Deputies also located a rifle, pistol and ammunition in the passenger area of ​​the vehicle.” Deputies checked the weapons and found the rifle was reported stolen in North Carolina, Bailey said. The driver, Luis Miguel Rodriguez Diaz, 30, of North Carolina, and the passenger, Yonell Diaz Rosario, 25, of the Dominican Republic, were arrested. Both men are charged with trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. Diaz is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Diaz and Rosario are being held in Rankin County Jail, where they await court appearance.
