Frankie J Gives Mi Tierra A Concert-Worthy Performance

Mi Tierra patrons were treated to a live musical surprise earlier this month when Frankie J stopped in for dinner. The singer known for hits like “Obsession” and “Suga, Suga” stopped in mid-dinner to join a trio of singers serenading the staple’s Market Square dining room.

The 46-year-old from San Diego rose from his seat and gave it his all to his rendition of the classic song “Fallaste Corazon.” Mexican icons from Pedro Infante to Rocio Durcal covered the song written by Cuco Sanchez which tells the story of a man laughing at his own heart. Frankie J released his cover in 2020.

Singing the beloved lyrics came naturally to Frankie J, who shot to fame as the lead singer of Kumbia Kings. He gave a performance worthy of a concert under the downtown restaurant’s famous scintillating papel picado ceiling.

“When you’re in good company, it brings out the best singing vibes,” the caption for the Aug. 13 video read.

Singers like country star Jon Pardi could probably agree with Frankie J. In March 2020, the “Head Over Boots” artist sang Ramon Ayala songs with a mariachi band in Mi Tierra.

Frankie J’s video received winks from Houston rapper Paul Wall and mariachi singer Beatriz Gonzalez, who had her own viral moment at Mi Tierra in 2017.

Fans like @mrs.corby also participated.

“Imagine having dinner and being randomly blessed with a live performance by Frankie J,” his comment read.

Frankie J is no stranger to San Antonio. The singer has performed several times in the city of Alamo. In April, he performed at Smoke BBQ + Skybar to celebrate the city’s annual Fiesta schedule. According to his Instagram posts surrounding Mi Tierra’s singing, he was in San Antonio for the Boyz II Men concert and was spending time in Houston recording a music video.
