Lady Gaga Rumored to Play Harley Quinn in ‘Joker’ Musical Sequel

Lady Gaga attends the 2022 New York Film Critics Circle Awards at TAO Downtown on March 16, 2022 in New York City.

Lady Gaga is in early talks to become the next Harley Quinn, starring Joaquin Phoenix in the 2019 Oscar winner’s sequel Joker.

By The Hollywood Reporterdirector Todd Phillips revealed the title of the new project on social media last week: Joker: Madness for two. The title refers to a medical term for the same or similar mental disorder that affects two or more people, usually members of the same family. Although the social media post showed Phoenix reading the script, Warner Bros. has not yet reached an agreement with the actor.

Details about Harley Quinn’s character are being kept under wraps, but Joker is known for his on-and-off abusive relationship with Arkham Asylum’s psychiatrist. Harley falls in love with him and becomes his partner in crime. It’s unclear whether Phillips will use other DC characters or create his own, as they did in many cases with their first film. Phillips previously produced A star is bornthe 2018 remake which starred Joker producer Bradley Cooper and Gaga.

By THRsources also say the sequel will be a musical.

Joker ended its theatrical run as the fourth highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, garnered 11 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won Best Actor (for Phoenix) and Best score (for Hildur Guonadotir).
