Tucson do it yourself

Congress Plaza Stage Hotel, 311 E. Congress St., 7:00 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m. $ 10 on

Who: Hotel Congress was set to host a celebrity launch party for the “Whole Enchilada” CD and book chronicling Tucson’s live music history. But this event has been postponed to next March due to production problems.

So David Slutes, resident congressional music historian / freaky fan / and one of those legendary musicians (Sidewinders) changed the subject and decided to recruit local musicians to cover hits from other local musicians. Which means Golden Boots will cover Barely Bipedal, and Los Esplifs will channel Sergio Mendoza and Orkesta Mendoza.

Mariachi Luz de Luna has the enviable task of covering Lala Guerrero, while Birds and Arrows takes on Sidewinders and Nightweather dives into Mesquite. Tom Walbank will revisit Rainer while the TireBiters with Lex Browning of Poco get to channel Peter McLaughlin.
