Monroe County man charged with rape and assault – WSOC TV

MONORE, NC — A man has been charged with first-degree rape in Monroe County after a thorough investigation, the Monroe Police Department said.

Luis Miguel Vail-Lopez, 20, has been charged with first degree rape, kidnapping, assault by strangulation and interference with emergency communications.

Authorities say the rape happened on September 19 in the Engleside Street neighborhood near Iceman Street in Monroe.

Police arrested Vail-Lopez at his home on Icemorelee Street on September 23 and was transported to Union County Jail. He is being held on $150,000 bond.

“This is a heinous crime,” Monroe Police Chief Bryan Gilliard said. “My thoughts are in prayers for the victim in this case and our agency will continue to work to ensure she receives the help and justice she so deserves. I am grateful to the officers and detectives who, through hard work and a detailed investigative process, succeeded in having Mr. Vail-Lopez, a dangerous criminal, identified, charged and arrested.

The condition of the victim is unknown as well as what led to the crime. Channel 9 is working to find out more.
