South Park celebrates its 25th anniversary with the concerts of the Red Rocks

MORRISON (KDVR) — South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are celebrating 25 years in the business with a musical concert at Red Rocks.

It’s been a quarter of a century since two unknown boys from Colorado started a phenomenon.

“I think it’s the fact that they’re not afraid to make fun of everything. And people need to laugh, it’s been ubiquitous for 25 years, it’s never going to go away,” Comedy Central’s Jeffrey Lesan told FOX31’s Dan Daru.

It started with the irreverent cartoon of South Park, then movies, then music and now even food with the purchase of the famous Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita in Lakewood.

There is a lot to celebrate. That’s why Red Rocks was chosen as the venue for South Park 25’s musical performance.

“When you hear it on the show, it’s kind of children’s songs, but when you hear it in practice here, it’s professional bands, professional musicians, and you realize how incredibly complex the songs are. and how good they sound live,” said Lesan.

The first gig was Tuesday night. Every South Park song was performed live by Matt and Trey to a sold-out crowd. A second takes place on Wednesday.

“They are composers. These are people who think about songs and the complexity of songs. It’s not just a real cartoon, there’s actually a lot of talent. They are skilled musicians,” Lesan said.
