Now, a typical angle for a story involving CYT — Christian Youth Theater — is to talk about their latest production, in this case “Spongebob: The Musical”. But for this one, the extra angle is coming home. to a building that was more than just a building.
“We were delighted to be back and that UL allowed us to come back,” says CYT Artistic Director Kallie Broussard. “Our kids were so thrilled that some have been performing here since we were eight years old so it feels like we are coming home to ourselves.
Returning to the Angelle Hall at UL… the transition from indoors to outdoors and back to indoor performances involves “Spongebob: The Musical”. celebrity with distinctive voice.
“I can do this very fluently and I can laugh,” says 14-year-old Leighton Soignier. “Nyah !! It is quite easy. Soignier plays Spongebob in the teen performances, and he’s the perennial optimist, says Soignier’s 8-12 counterpart Colin Liles. “SpongeBob SquarePants are energetic, full of joy and always look on the bright side.”
Essentially, Spongebob gathers a team of heroes to save him. There will be eight performances, some by the 8-12 group and others by teenage actors – with over 80 young actors involved and live music from the orchestral pit. Again, these will be shows done – finally – back at Angelle Hall. “We’re one of the first people to do a real show, it’s awesome, I love it,” Liles adds.
And for Soignier, CYT veteran for five years, it’s a very pleasant comeback. “It’s very nostalgic. Personally, to be able to come back here, I really have a special place in my heart.
Shows from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon… and all the theater is finally available for you to buy your tickets. Theater in a theater? Or theater in a theater? “Yes, having the lights and the sound, and the curtains, that adds so much more to the production. And the air conditioning too, ”says Broussard, laughing.
