Tram track works to close carriageways
The City of North Little Rock has told residents to expect road closures due to repairs to downtown streetcar tracks, the city said in a news release.
The city will close sections of Main Street and Bishop Lindsey Avenue while workers repair the tracks, starting tonight. On Tuesday, workers will begin repairing streetcar tracks at the intersection of North Maple and West Seventh Streets. Repair work will continue until Wednesday evening.
Work will take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day, with the city implementing detour routes.
The City inaugurates a new fire station
City officials broke ground on June 30 for what will be a new fire station in Burns Park.
The fire station will be located at 501 West Military Drive, inside the park. It will cost around $2.8 million to build. The fire station will replace the city’s current one located at 6550 MacArthur Drive and will include guest rooms, drive-through bays and the battalion commander’s quarters.
The new fire station will also be connected to the North Little Rock Fire Department Memorial, which is dedicated to those who have died in the line of duty. The money comes from the city’s sales tax increase that voters approved in a 2017 referendum.
Latin singer Chavez to headline the series
Latin Grammy nominated artist Gina Chavez will headline the Argenta Vive Music Series on July 22.
The free outdoor concert will take place at Argenta Plaza in North Little Rock beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The city encourages those interested in attending to bring their own seats, as space will be limited. Chavez was nominated for Best Pop/Rock Album at the 2020 Latin Grammys. She is also a 12-time Austin Music Award winner, according to a press release.
