“Sounds Good to Me” is an all-new songwriter series designed and hosted by longtime KW music veteran Jack Cooper. The first show stars Joni NehRita and will take place at the KW Little Theater in Waterloo on Friday, July 8 from 8 p.m. The series aims to feature performers of primarily original music across a wide range of voices, styles and performing genres in an intimate performance space. Tickets for the first show are available for purchase through Eventbrite at: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/joni-nehrita-tickets-338987690307
Joni NehRita, who launches the series at KWLT, is a highly acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, self-produced singer-songwriter and arranger with a knack for writing infectious, well-crafted songs that are deeply personal. The Jamaican-Canadian artist writes songs that explore themes of universal love, social justice, and cultivate imagination and compassion. Her 4th full album, “Love & Protest”, is a mix of soul, jazz and Afro-Latin/Caribbean grooves and was written, produced and mixed entirely by NehRita.
Series founder and curator Jack Cooper is drawn to performers of their own material who excite him with their ideas, creative expression, and passion for articulating their musical vision. Recognizing the subjective nature of this approach is acknowledged through the series’ arch name, “Sounds Good to Me”. The KW Little Theater has long been regarded as an intimate performance space in the heart of Waterloo city center by artists and audiences alike and is considered by Cooper to be the ideal venue to present captivating performances.
