WE ARE LADY’S PIECES (fka Lady Parts), is an anarchic, cheerful and irreverent musical that follows a Muslim female punk band – called Lady Parts – who are on a mission to find a lead guitarist and maybe, just maybe, get a real gig. .
The series is written, created and directed by Nida Manzoor, who drew on her own experiences and drew inspiration from the rich and diverse cultural collectives and artists of London, and has an exciting set of new talents from British actor.
WE ARE LADY’S PIECES shows the ups and downs of the band – Lady Parts – seen through the eyes of Amina Hussain – a geeky microbiology doctoral student, looking for love and recruited to be their unlikely lead guitarist. The fierce and enigmatic Lady Parts singer Saira sees something in Amina. However, the other members – taxi drummer Ayesha, cartoon bassist and backing vocalist Bisma and Momtaz, the manager of the band’s wheeler-dealer band – aren’t convinced that she’s right for their band. Amina has never met girls like this before, and she is soon swept away by their cheerful, lawless energy and punk spirit. But she becomes torn and caught between two different worlds – that of her tighter college friends, ruled by her best friend Noor, and the world of Lady Parts. Will it be the key to the group’s success? And – will she finally find a husband?
WE ARE LADY’S PIECES is both a daring comedy and a joyful celebration of the richness and diversity of contemporary London, but also an exploration of life’s fundamental questions: Who am I? Where and to whom do I belong? But at the end of the day, it’s about funny women with real agency, forging their own lives and identities in a world determined to do it for them.
· The series stars Anjana Vasan (“Amina Hussain”), Sarah Kameela Impey (“Saira”), Juliette Motamed (“Ayesha”), Faith Omole (“Bisma”), Lucie Shorthouse (“Momtaz”), Zaqi Ismail (“Ahsan”) and Aiysha Hart (“Noor”).
