Zac Efron returns to East High from High School Musical in new image

Zac Efron, who played Troy Bolton in the hugely popular High School Musical films, shares a photo taken outside the actual high school.

Zac Efron revisited high school in the musical high school series in a nostalgic image posted on social media. The star, who has since moved on to blockbuster films like Baywatch and The greatest showman, as well as exploring the world on her Netflix reality show Down to earth with Zac Efron, debuted in the Disney Channel Original Movie. He starred as basketball player-turned-singer Troy Bolton in the 2006 film, which became a massive hit for the network and spawned two sequels (one of which went to theaters), a Disney+ original series, and a spin-off starring Ashley Tisdale. Sharpay Evans character.

Salt Lake High School East, who plays the fictional role of East High, is almost as important to the franchise as the characters. He has appeared in every film in the franchise (except the largely forgotten direct-to-video Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure), and he returned to the screen when Disney debuted High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in 2019. In the meta musical, high school is played out in a world where the musical high school films exist, and students attending the high school proper mount a theatrical production based on the first film. This show launched the career of pop diva Olivia Rodrigo and featured cameos from several artists who appeared in the original films, including Lucas Grabeel and Kaycee Stroh.

For obvious reasons, this post has led to speculation that Efron will appear in the upcoming High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 3, which premieres on Disney+ next week on July 27, 2022. An Efron cameo wouldn’t be completely out of the question, given the show’s penchant for including alumni. musical high school stars. However, one important thing to note is that this season of the series takes place at a summer camp and may not include many scenes set at school, if any.

Efron may be teasing an upcoming cameo or just honoring his musical high school legacy. Either way, it’s certainly exciting for the fans who grew up with him and Troy Bolton. Many actors who start out in projects aimed at kids and tweens tend to try to distance themselves from those projects as they get older, so he pays a fitting tribute to the films and fans that paved his way.
